Varnished wood: Varnished wooden items are finished with a protective coating that gives the item its colour and offers protection against stains; spills should still be removed immediately. For regular dusting, use a dry cloth. For cleaning or in case of a spill, use a damp cloth and natural soap, wiping in the direction of the grain. Do not use soap containing detergent or other chemicals. Dry with a soft, clean cloth to prevent spotting. Protect surfaces with coasters or placemats, as heavy daily use or heat can damage the finish.
Upholstery: Avoid placing the item in direct sunlight. For dusting or removing crumbs, wipe the upholstery with a clean cloth or soft brush; do not rub. Vacuuming is not recommended; if you do, use the lowest suction and a soft upholstery attachment. Treat spills immediately: blot up as much as possible with a clean, dry, white cloth. For a stain, blot with a clean, slightly damp white cloth from the outer edge toward the centre. Do not use chemical products on the upholstery. Pilling is a characteristic of many upholstery fabrics, not a defect, and can be removed with an anti-pilling device.
