Oiled oak: Oiled oak furniture is finished with a pigmented hardwax oil. This finish gives the furniture its natural colour and helps keep stains from penetrating the wood, though it is no guarantee against stains. In case of a spill, remove it immediately. For regular dusting, use a dry cloth. For cleaning or in case of a spill, use a damp cloth and natural soap, wiping in the direction of the grain. Do not use soap containing detergent or other chemicals. Dry with a soft, clean cloth to prevent spotting. Protect surfaces with coasters or placemats, as heavy daily use or heat can damage the finish.

Varnished wood: Varnished wooden items are finished with a protective coating that gives the item its colour and offers protection against stains; spills should still be removed immediately.
